About the event
Lincoln Trio
Hailed by The Strad as “Sensational” and “Bewitching,” and by Gramophone as “Models of vibrancy and control,” the celebrated, Grammy-nominated, Chicago-based Lincoln Trio — Desirée Ruhstrat, violin; David Cunliffe, cello; and Marta Aznavoorian, piano — takes its name from its home, the heartland of the United States, the land of Lincoln.
Black Oak Ensemble
Praised for its “insightful, committed and masterful performances” (Classics Today 10/10) and “fierce eloquence” (London Times), the Black Oak Ensemble is one of the most innovative and exciting chamber ensembles on the international stage.

Black Oak Ensemble Performance:
Join us Sunday, February 25, 2024, at 3 pm, for the next performance in our 2022-23 Friends of Music concert series.
The Chicago Piano Quartet is an exciting new project that brings together four of its namesake city's most esteemed chamber players.
Violinist Desirée Ruhstrat, cellist David Cunliffe, and pianist Marta Aznavoorian make up the Lincoln Trio. Ruhstrat, Cunliffe, and violist Aurélien Fort Pederzoli make up the critically-acclaimed Black Oak Ensemble, one of the leading string trios on the international scene. When the two trios combine, in a case of 3 + 3 = 4, they become the superlative CHICAGO PIANO QUARTET!
The honors, achievements, and critical acclaim garnered by the Lincoln Trio and the Black Oak Ensemble are too numerous to mention. The Lincoln Trio was nominated for a 2017 GRAMMY Award for Best Performance by a Small Ensemble; their playing was praised by Joshua Kosman of the San Francisco Chronicle as "fervent and imaginative" and by The Strad as "sensational." The Black Oak Ensemble's latest CD reached #1 in the Billboard Classical Charts in July 2022. Since then, it has been lauded in the U.S. and international press, including Canada, the Netherlands and Germany. Fanfare said, "the players fully inhabit the spirit of whatever work they are playing at the moment, performing each one with as ardent a flame as if they had written it themselves."
