Friends of Music is committed to continuing to bring beautiful live classical music concerts to our community, and will continue to do so under the auspices of the Partnership for the Performing Arts.

Brookings Harbor Friends of Music

The Partnership for the Performing Arts initiative is to serve as a location for civic, cultural, and educational events, and has partnered with and assumed leadership of the 40-year-old institution known for musical expression, Brookings Harbor Friends of Music, and continues to host performances and events.

Mission

Friends of Music, a non-profit organization, promoted interest in musical expression and enhanced the cultural climate of the region by presenting classical music programs and promoting other musical genres throughout the year. The organization encouraged, guided, and provided tools to novice, student, and underprivileged community members to participate in a variety of performing arts activities by making educational, outreach, and scholarship opportunities available.

About

Friends of Music took shape in 1985 when a group of music lovers along the southern Oregon and northern California coast decided to pool efforts and resources to bring high-quality musical performances to the area.

For over 30 years, we provided the Southern Oregon Coast and surrounding communities with live concerts by world-renowned artists that typically demanded far higher ticket prices in other areas. We believed everyone should be able to enjoy beautiful music, so we worked hard to keep our ticket prices low. We served all ages and incomes in the Oregon coast and surrounding counties to bring world-class live classical music to the community.

Our Commitment to the Community

Friends of Music presented seven to eight affordable concerts per year by highly acclaimed classical musicians that would not otherwise have been accessible to the Southern Oregon coast community. Our concerts helped attract tourists to the area who, in turn, enjoyed our beautiful area and patronized local businesses, hotels, and restaurants. Additionally, we supported our youth through our school outreach program and scholarship program and offered free concert admission to all students under the age of 18.

Our community contributions include:

  • A scholarship program that distributes $6,000 annually to gifted young musicians to help further their musical careers

  • Providing an outreach program to local students via a personal meeting with the concert performers. (This rare chance to meet and learn from world-class musicians is an experience many students would not otherwise have)

  • Donating funds and instruments to local schools’ music programs

  • Donating to summer music camps for students

  • Donating to, promoting, and participating in the local community public radio podcasts and programs
